The bad news: tourism is slowing down. The question: is it a catastrophe? The answer: “No”.

After five years of “exceptional growth” for hotels, during which overnight stays surged by 45% and revenues by 83%, tourism in Portugal is starting to show signs of slowing down in 2018. This is “inevitable but normal, after almost doubling the sector’s revenue” – this is the starting point of a study by BlueShift, a hotel consulting and management company, which models the evolution of demand and supply for the next triennium and its direct impact on the profitability of companies in the sector.
