BlueShift at Madeira Startup Retreat provides training on Blue Ocean Strategy

Filipe Santiago is one of the invited mentors by Nova SBE to train international startups in the Tourism sector

Filipe Santiago, Managing Partner of BlueShift Consulting and advisor to the Nova School of Business and Economics, is participating as a mentor in the inaugural Madeira Startup Retreat. The program is an acceleration initiative for startups in the tourism sector, developed collaboratively by Startup Madeira, Turismo de Portugal, and Nova SBE.

Taking place from January 15 to March 16, 2018, the Madeira Startup Retreat offers a comprehensive and intensive program of activities, including lectures, workshops, and mentoring sessions coordinated by Nova SBE. It involves the support of approximately twenty mentors with diverse expertise. Eight startups in the tourism sector, selected from countries such as the UK, Netherlands, Austria, Russia, Slovenia, Macedonia, China, India, and Pakistan, are participating in this event.

Filipe Santiago, invited by Nova SBE to be part of the mentor panel, will present the fundamental principles of the Blue Ocean Strategy theory. He will also lead a workshop where participants will apply some of the tools developed by the authors. The Blue Ocean Strategy theory encourages companies to find an unexplored competitive space, a “blue ocean,” to escape undifferentiated and price-based competition, aiming for higher levels of profitability.

According to Filipe Santiago, “the Blue Ocean methodology forces us to look at the value proposition objectively, determining whether our product truly differentiates itself from the competition or competes in the same variables. It is an essential test for these entrepreneurs who seek to establish themselves in the market through innovative approaches”.
